08 March 2019: Annual College Day

Milagres College, Kallianpur celebrated College Day on Friday, 8th March, 2019 at Milagres Tri-centenary Hall. V. Rev. Fr Dr Lawrence C. D’Souza, Correspondent of Milagres College presided on the occasion. Rev. Fr Fred Mascarenhas, Former Principal of Milagres College was the chief guest. Mr Jayaprakash Shetty, Alumnus and Chairman and Managing Director of Shambuji Group of companies, Mumbai was the guest of honour. Dr Vincent Alva, Principal of Milagres College, Dr Surekha, Staff Secretary, Student Welfare Council directors,Prof Annamma & Dr Herald Monis, Managing Committee member Dr Neri Cornelio, Mr Melwin Sequeira, President of Student Welfare Council. Mr Prajwal and Secretary Mr Lukman Hakim were present on the dias. The programme began with a song of Abraham Lincoln.  Womens day was celebrated in a special manner. The college Newsletter “Voice of Milagres” was released by the President V Rev. Fr Dr Lawrence C D’Souza. The college annual report was presented by the Principal along with the video presentation. Prof Subrahmanya Joshi, Former HOD of Chemistry who retired on October was felicitated. Ms Kavya Pai of final B.Sc. expressed gratitude towards Prof Subrahmanya Joshi on behalf of all students. Mr Joseph Peter Fernandes from the Dept of Chemistry spoke on behalf of the staff.  Prof Melwin C Rego read the certificate of Appreciation. Mr Pradeesh, NCC Cadet was honoured in the occasion. Sports achiever were participated in National, State level competition were felicitated by Mr Jayaprakash Shetty,the guest of honour. Endowment scholarship were distributed and the rank holder of MSW dept, Mrs Usha K was honoured. Chief guest Rev. Fr Fred Mascarenhas advised the students to be disciplined and to gain knowledge not only through social medias but also from teachers. Guest of honour –Mr Jayaprakash Shetty in his address encouraged the students to come out of the comfort zone, and to face all the challenges in life. In his presidential speech V. Rev. Fr Dr Lawrence C D’Souza appreciated the Principal Dr Vincent Alva for innovative implementation of activities in the college. Secretary of Student Welfare Council Lukman Hakim proposed vote of thanks. Ms Sofiya of Final B.Sc. & Mr Aral D’Souza of final B.C.A. compered the formal program. After lunch cultural program was performed.

D’Souza, Secretary, Catholic Education Society of Udupi Diocese presided the occasion. Dr Gerald Pinto, Former Principal of Milagres College, Kallianpur was the chief guest. Mr Bhaskar Naik – Alumnus, and Managing Director of Petropath Fluids (India) Pvt. Ltd., Rev. Fr Jephrine Monis from Germany, and Mrs Savitha Hebbar Principal of Milagres P.U. College, Kallianpur were the guests of honour. Very Rev. Fr Stany B. Lobo Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions, Dr Vincent Alva – Principal of Milagres College, Rev. Dr Prakash Anil Castelino – Campus Minister, Sri. Uday Kumar Shetty – President of Parents Teachers Association, Mr Salvadore Noronha – President of Alumni Association, Prof. Shylet Mathias – Secretary of Staff Council, Prof. Subrahmanya Joshi and Prof. Annamma – Directors of Student Welfare Council, Ms Princslie Lewis and Ms Vinitha Crasta – President and Secretary of Student Welfare Council were present on the dais. The programme began by singing State Anthem ‘Jay Bharatha Jananiya Tanujathe’. Very Rev. Fr Stany B. Lobo welcomed the gathering. The college Newsletter ‘Voice of Milagres’ was released by the President Rev. Fr Dr Lawrence C. D’Souza. The college annual report was presented in the form of a video. Prof. Cyril Mathias, Former HOD of English Department, retired on 31 January 2018 was felicitated. Ms Sushmitha from Final B.Sc. expressed gratitude towards Prof. Cyril Mathias on behalf of all the students. Mrs Chandrika from Department of English spoke on behalf of the staff. Principal Dr Vincent Alva read the Certificate of Appreciation. Mr Oliver D’Souza, NCC Cadet who participated in the Republic Day Parade at Delhi in January 2018 was honoured by the President Rev. Fr Dr Lawrence C. D’Souza. Mr Jolson Gonsalves and Mr Megharaju U, members of Milagres crew Rover who received Rajya Puraskar Award were honoured. Sports achievers who participated in National and State level were felicitated by Mr Bhaskar, the guest of honour. Scholarships were distributed during the occasion. Chief Guest Dr Gerald Pinto and Guest of Honour Mr Bhaskar Naik spoke on the occasion. In his presidential speech, Rev. Fr Dr Lawrence C. D’Souza said that he can see a lot of difference in the way things are implemented in the college, and appreciated the Principal Dr Vincent Alva for the same.  Prof. Shylet Mathias proposed vote of thanks. Ms Jyothsna Lewis of Final B.Com and  Mr Sachin of Final BBM compered the formal programme. After the lunch many cultural programmes like dance, singing, mime, skit, etc. were performed.

“There are copious opportunities ahead for the students who excel in sports’, said The Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries and Sports & Youth Empowerment, Shri. Pramod Madhwaraj. He called upon the students to make use of the benefits provided by the Government. The Bishop of Udupi Diocese Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isac Lobo blessed the newly inaugurated Pavilion. Abhin Devadiga, Rohan Kotian, and Mohammed Shaad of Milagres institutions were felicitated for their outstanding achievements in sports at the state and national level. Mrs Savitha Kumari, Principal, Milagres PU College, Rev. Fr Dr Prakash Anil Castelino- the Campus Minister, Dr Nery Cornelio & Dr Gerald Pinto, Former Principals of the college, Mr Udaya Kumar Shetty, President of PTA and Mr Salvadore Noronha, President of Alumni Association, were the chief guests. Rev. Fr Stany B Lobo, The Correspondent, Milagres Group of Institutions welcomed the gathering. Dr Vincent Alva, the Principal, proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Joseph Peter Fernandes compeered the programme.

Dr. Vincent Alva – Newly Appointed Principal, Milagres College, Kallianpur

Dr. Vincent Alva has been appointed as the principal of Milagres College, Kallianpur. He will take charge from June 1 from incumbent principal Dr Gerald Pinto.

Inauguration of Golden Jubilee Year of Milagres College, Kallianpur

The Golden Jubilee Year 2016 – 2017 of the Milagres College and Milagres Pre – University College was inaugurated at Milagres Tri – Centenary Hall, Kallianpur by Sri. Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of Fisheries, Sports and Youth Affair, District in Charge Minister, Government of Karnataka. After the inauguration, Sri. Pramod Madhwaraj said the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts are developed at par with European countries due to Christian missionaries. He praised the college that instead of constructing buildings on account of Golden Jubilee celebrations, the college has started a educational fund for the study of poor students. He was also felicitated by the Bishop. The programme began with welcome dance by college students. Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi diocese and President of Catholic Education Society of Udupi, presided the inaugural programme. Rev. Fr. Lawrence Dsouza, Secretary of CESU, Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo, Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions and Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Mrs. Janaki Brahmavar, President of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy as well as a student of first batch, Dr. Gerald Pinto, Principal, Milagres College, Rev. Dr. Prakash Anil Castelino, Campus Director and Mrs. Savitha Kumari, Principal, Milagres PU College were present on the dais. Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo welcomed the guests and the gatherings. Dr. Gerald Pinto delivered the introductory address and pointed out some of the projects on the occasion of Jubilee celebration that will be taken during the year. Bishop handed over the cheque of Rs. 4 lakhs, which was contributed by the staff as a seed money for Milagres Golden Jubilee Educational Fund for the education of poor students to Prof. Cyril Mathias, Convener of the Educational Fund. During the occasion, the college honored the teachers as well as students of the first batch of 1967. Mrs. Savitha Kumari, Principal, Milagres PU College proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Vincent Alva compered the programme.
